How to convert GIF to PNG
- Add your GIF photos. Drop them on the box above, or pick them from your device. You can add up to 300 files in one batch, each up to 50 MB.
- Check that the Format is set to PNG. WipePic has already chosen PNG for you on this page.
- Download the PNG files. One file is saved as it is, and several files are saved as a ZIP.
Why convert GIF to PNG?
You have a still GIF and need a PNG, which holds more colors and keeps transparency.
What to know about this conversion
- Only a GIF with a single frame is converted. An animated GIF is not converted: WipePic keeps the original file and tells you why.
- PNG has no quality setting and keeps transparency.
- The converted photo is turned upright using its Orientation tag, and the new file has the extension .png.
- When the colors of a photo cannot be kept in the new file, WipePic converts them to sRGB and shows a note on the file.
Your photos stay on your device
The conversion runs in your browser. WipePic does not upload your photos, does not need an account and has no usage quota. Each converted file is also cleaned of its hidden metadata, so you can share it right away.
Questions
Can I turn an animated GIF into a PNG?
No. A PNG holds one picture, and WipePic does not convert files with more than one frame. The animated GIF stays as it is, with its metadata removed.
Does the PNG keep the transparent background of my GIF?
Yes. Transparent pixels stay transparent in the PNG.
Why would I convert a still GIF to PNG?
PNG holds millions of colors, and GIF holds at most 256. PNG is also better supported by editors. The conversion cannot add colors that the GIF does not have.
Does the GIF to PNG conversion remove metadata?
Yes. WipePic removes the hidden metadata, such as the GPS location, the camera model and the capture time, and then converts the picture. The new PNG file is cleaned once more, so it carries none of it.
