Remove metadata from WebP images
Add your WebP images to the tool above and WipePic removes the EXIF, XMP, GPS location and Content Credentials from each file. The pixels, the transparency and the animation stay as they were, and nothing leaves your device.

What metadata does a WebP file contain?
A WebP file is a RIFF container made of chunks. The picture sits in one chunk, and optional chunks can hold hidden data:
- EXIF: the camera, the date and time, and the GPS location. WebP files that came from a phone photo or an export from a photo editor often have this chunk.
- XMP: author, rights and editing information.
- Content Credentials (C2PA), when a tool added them.
- Other unknown chunks and extra data after the end of the image.
- An ICC profile (ICCP chunk), which describes how to show the colours.
What WipePic removes and keeps in WebP files
WipePic removes:
- GPS location and place names
- Camera and device details
- Capture date and time
- XMP: author, copyright, software and editing history
- Content Credentials (C2PA)
- Unknown chunks and any data after the image
WipePic keeps:
- Every pixel of the still image or of each animation frame.
- Transparency (the alpha channel).
- Animation, so an animated WebP still plays with the same timing.
- The colour profile (ICC).
- The orientation, written in a small EXIF chunk.
A WebP file in the simple format cannot carry an EXIF chunk, so it has none to remove. When the file uses the extended format, WipePic keeps only a small EXIF chunk with the orientation and the colour-space information.
How to remove metadata from WebP files
- Add your WebP files (.webp) to the tool above. You can add up to 300 files at a time, and each file can be up to 50 MB.
- WipePic reads each file in your browser and shows what it found.
- Remove the metadata. The files stay in the WebP format unless you choose another format.
- Download the cleaned files. WipePic is free, and you do not need an account.
Cleaning does not remove a visible watermark or any other content that is part of the picture, and it cannot remove a record that is stored outside the file.
Questions
Do WebP files contain EXIF data?
They can. WebP supports EXIF and XMP chunks, and some tools and cameras write them. Many WebP files from the web have no metadata at all, and WipePic then tells you that it found nothing to remove.
Does an animated WebP stay animated?
Yes. WipePic keeps the animation chunks and every frame, so the timing and the loop stay the same.
Is the transparency of my WebP kept?
Yes. The alpha data is kept, so a WebP with a transparent background looks the same after cleaning.
Can I turn the cleaned WebP into another format?
Yes, with the Format menu in the tool. By default WipePic keeps the original format, which does not change the pixels. Converting to another format re-encodes the image.
