How to convert PNG to JPG
- Add your PNG photos. Drop them on the box above, or pick them from your device. You can add up to 300 files in one batch, each up to 50 MB.
- Check that the Format is set to JPG and set the Quality if you want. WipePic has already chosen JPG for you on this page.
- Download the JPG files. One file is saved as it is, and several files are saved as a ZIP.
Why convert PNG to JPG?
A PNG screenshot or picture is too large for an upload limit or an email. A JPG is much smaller and good enough for photos.
What to know about this conversion
- JPG does not store transparency. Transparent areas of the PNG turn white.
- JPG is best for photos. Sharp text, logos and flat colors can show small blur marks at a low quality, so keep the Quality slider high for them.
- The Quality slider goes from low to high and starts at 85. A higher value keeps more detail and makes a larger file.
- The converted photo is turned upright using its Orientation tag, and the new file has the extension .jpg.
- When the colors of a photo cannot be kept in the new file, WipePic converts them to sRGB and shows a note on the file.
Your photos stay on your device
The conversion runs in your browser. WipePic does not upload your photos, does not need an account and has no usage quota. Each converted file is also cleaned of its hidden metadata, so you can share it right away.
Questions
Will PNG to JPG make my file smaller?
For photos, usually by a large factor. Screenshots with flat colors can be small as PNG already, so check the size on the result.
What happens to the transparent background?
It turns white, because JPG cannot store transparency. Keep the PNG if you need the transparency.
Is it safe to convert a PNG with personal info in it?
Yes. The conversion happens on your device, and the new JPG is cleaned of hidden metadata, such as the text chunks and the creation software of the PNG.
Does the PNG to JPG conversion remove metadata?
Yes. WipePic removes the hidden metadata, such as the GPS location, the camera model and the capture time, and then converts the picture. The new JPG file is cleaned once more, so it carries none of it.
