How to convert JPG to WebP
- Add your JPG photos. Drop them on the box above, or pick them from your device. You can add up to 300 files in one batch, each up to 50 MB.
- Check that the Format is set to WebP and set the Quality if you want. WipePic has already chosen WebP for you on this page.
- Download the WebP files. One file is saved as it is, and several files are saved as a ZIP.
Why convert JPG to WebP?
You want smaller image files for a website or an app. WebP is often smaller than JPG at a similar look.
What to know about this conversion
- The WebP is lossy and has a Quality slider that starts at 85. Converting a JPG again to a lossy format can add a small amount of new loss, so keep your original JPG.
- WipePic encodes the file with your browser. If your browser cannot encode WebP, the tool keeps the original format.
- The Quality slider goes from low to high and starts at 85. A higher value keeps more detail and makes a larger file.
- The converted photo is turned upright using its Orientation tag, and the new file has the extension .webp.
- When the colors of a photo cannot be kept in the new file, WipePic converts them to sRGB and shows a note on the file.
Your photos stay on your device
The conversion runs in your browser. WipePic does not upload your photos, does not need an account and has no usage quota. Each converted file is also cleaned of its hidden metadata, so you can share it right away.
Questions
How much smaller is WebP than JPG?
Often noticeably smaller at a similar look, but it depends on the photo. Compare the size on the result and change the Quality slider to find your balance.
Is it bad to convert a JPG to WebP?
It is fine for sharing and websites, but both formats are lossy, so the pixels change a little. Keep your original JPG as the master copy.
Does the WebP keep the GPS location of my JPG?
No. The GPS location, the camera data and the other metadata are removed. The WebP is cleaned after the conversion.
Does the JPG to WebP conversion remove metadata?
Yes. WipePic removes the hidden metadata, such as the GPS location, the camera model and the capture time, and then converts the picture. The new WebP file is cleaned once more, so it carries none of it.
